    Oh really, interesting. I thought it was an attempt to avoid it looking like a carbon copy, whilst still being an accurate representation of the plans. Let me know if you find an explanation…

    Yes I think it was the first one, it was definitely part of the first generation of new towns. I’ll have to read up on that. I think that that the mirroring though was to do with the limitations of film at the time. I’ve seen a lot of older films and photography of places I know where there the films or image is mirrored.

    Yes I believe you’re right, I’ve even read that Stevenage was the first ‘new town’, not sure if that’s true though. But even the roads and rail lines are the same. Odd how it’s been mirror imaged (east to west) though

    Well Stevenage was one of the first Generation new towns, it became a new town in 1946 so the plans could well be the same.
